Sony rolls out first PlayStation 5 beta software software

The PlayStation 5 beta software is a first step towards a supported expansion of SSD storage.

The PS5 comes standard with a built-in 825 GB SSD. That may sound sufficient, but in practice it really isn’t. A small part is initially swallowed by the operating system. Then there are some games that are so retarded that they take up the vast majority of your console storage. Digitally install Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War with Warzone and also Modern Warfare. No other major PS5 game will be able to be installed.

Expanding the SSD memory is therefore something that is interesting for gamers with a large library. You can attach an external hard drive to your PS5, but that is of little use to you. Only with the approval of Sony you can actually play games from another SSD. The first step has now been taken, because Sony has made the necessary PlayStation 5 beta software available today. The beta is available in Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada and the United States.

The beta supports the M.2 SSD expansion slot. Sony requires at least a PCIe Gen4 SSD with a minimum speed of 5,500MB/s. You should pay attention to this if you are going to buy an SSD to screw it into your PS5. It would be a shame if the whole process had to be run again because you bought the wrong SSD.

It’s not just about throwing in an SSD and done. Also keep in mind that such an SSD requires extra cooling to function properly. The temperature can rise, especially during long game sessions in a warm room. In addition to the SSD, it is likely that you will have to invest in heat sinks.
