Sony is patenting the shells of the PS5 … to sell them soon?
Sony has received the green light for a patent for the PlayStation 5 cases. The request was made in November 2020 and was only approved a few days ago by the American body (USPTO) which manages the patents.
Soon the sale of PS5 cases by Sony?
Naturally, this patent for the shells of the PlayStation 5 raises a question: will Sony start to sell its own facades for its console? The question may arise in view of what has happened in recent weeks and months. Sony notably sent a formal notice to Dbrand which offered black shells, without any authorization. The group agreed to stop the sale.
Another element is that Sony itself has suggested that a black PS5 should see the light of day. It was Matt MacLaurin, a former vice president of Sony, who sold the wick last year. But the console remains white for now. At the same time, Sony released black versions of its DualSense controller and Pulse 3D headset. All that’s left is the console.
Removing the shells of the PS5 is not very complicated. Sony could therefore sell black copies (as many want) and other colors for a few euros. But for now, the group is not announcing anything publicly.
