Sony Xperia Compact line returns in 2021

Sony may launch a new small phone in the Compact line in the first half of next year. This series of smartphones were sold a few years ago and were popular due to the handy size. The rumor comes from the unknown website AndroidNext and that is why we take the information with a good grain of salt for the time being.

The Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact from 2018.

The unannounced device would have a 5.5-inch screen, which is relatively compact. Most smartphones nowadays have a screen of 6 inches or larger and with many phones the screen size exceeds 6.5 inches. Devices such as the Motorola Moto G9 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra even have a 6.8 or 6.9 inch display.

The new Sony phone is said to be a smaller version of the Xperia 1 III, which should succeed this year’s Xperia 1 II. The small device is said to have the still unannounced Snapdragon 775 processor. Furthermore, no specifications or other details are known yet; they may leak out at a later time.

Although it is still the question whether the Compact smartphones really return, Sony came this year with a relatively small phone: the Xperia 5 II. This phone has a 6.1-inch screen with thin edges (and a narrow housing), making it reasonably easy to operate with one hand. The company also released the Xperia 1 II, but this device has a larger 6.5-inch display.
