Skyrim developer deciphered the mystery of the treasure foxes

Anyone who has been traveling to the edge of the sky for a long time will certainly have made the acquaintance of the saga of the treasure foxes. The wild animals should lead you to all kinds of riches and treasures if you follow them. After 10 years, a Skyrim developer has now explained what the story is really about.

Skyrim developer unpacks: That’s what the treasure foxes are all about

Skyrim is teeming with wild creatures and animals that either want to get to your leather or tear you away as soon as they see you.

But one animal is supposed to lead adventurers to all sorts of treasures in Skyrim: the fox. For years there has been a persistent rumor among the players that the red-skinned four-legged friends guide the player to hidden chests and richesif you follow them.

Former Skyrim developer Joel Burgees has now commented on the myth on Twitter and explained in a series of tweets how it comes about that the foxes are almost magically attracted to treasure.

Treasure Foxes: Just a funny coincidence

The explanation in a nutshell: The foxes in Skyrim are programmed to run away from the player and to build up a certain distance, which is not measured in meters but in a number of triangles that make up the navigation paths of the game world.

These triangles are significantly larger in the wild than in camps or other places, in which a large amount of objects are placed. Since the goal of the fox is to bring as many triangles as possible between the player and himself, he prefers to hike in the direction of these special places – because here he can bridge this distance much faster.

The probability of finding treasures, riches or other valuable loot in these places is significantly higher than on a foray through the wilderness. For this reason, many players assume that the foxes guided them purposefully to these treasures. The poor digital animals were just about to flee from them.

This finally solved another Skyrim mystery after all these years.
