The announcement of the iPhone 13 is not long in coming. But what do we know about Apple’s flagship products: the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max? These are our iPhone 13 Pro (Max) expectations.

Four new iPhone 13 models are expected to be released this year. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are Apple’s flagships, but let’s not forget the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini.

What will the price of the iPhone 13 Pro Max be?

The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max will be the cream of the crop of the iPhone 13 devices. Of course there is a hefty price tag. Fortunately, the prices (according to most rumors) remain the same as the previous Pro models. That means that the iPhone 13 Pro will cost 1,159 euros. For the iPhone 13 Pro Max you may have lost 1259 euros.

You have to take these prices with a grain of salt. Due to the scarcity on the market, chip prices have risen sharply. It may be that this still affects the prices of the iPhone 13.

iPhone 13 Pro (Max) screen and size

We don’t expect many changes to the size of the screen. That is why the iPhone 13 Pro is expected to have a 6.1-inch screen. The iPhone 13 Pro Max takes that one step further, and has a 6.7-inch display.

Fast and Smooth: 120Hz ProMotion

Very cool: both Pro models are rumored to have a 120Hz screen. This makes scrolling and swiping a lot smoother. This is of course also a welcome addition for avid iPhone gamers, but you also notice it when you browse through the website or swipe through the interface.

According to website DigiTimes the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max will have an extra energy-efficient LTPO screen. Such a display puts less pressure on the battery life, so you can use your device longer before it has to be recharged.

further says DigiTimes that the screen of the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) uses about fifteen to twenty percent less power than this year’s entry-level models, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini. And that in turn ensures that the iPhone battery lasts longer.

Improvements for iPhone 13 Pro camera

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will likely get four more cameras (three on the back and one on the front). Other than that, there doesn’t seem to be much change in the main camera.

Better ultra-wide angle and portrait videos

With the Pro models, the improvement is mainly in the ultra-wide-angle lens. It is rumored to let in much more light. This camera will also have autofocus and image stabilization for the first time. That should provide even better and sharper photos, which is a nice improvement.

Current iPhones already have a portrait mode for photos, of course, but this function was not available for video. That may soon change. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg writes that the iPhone 13 Pro will also get a portrait mode for video.

The iPhone 7 Plus was the first iPhone to have a portrait mode for photos. With this function you can take photos where the subject remains sharp and the background is blurred. The amount of blur (or depth of field) can be adjusted afterwards.

In addition to the portrait videos, you also get the option to shoot videos in higher quality, with ProRes video. Apple already has a special photo format, Apple ProRAW, on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. ProRes seems to be doing this for videos. Most likely, this feature will be limited to the iPhone 13 Pro (Max).

New processor and more energy efficient

According to all rumors, the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) will receive a chip that is faster and more economical. The iPhone 13 is expected to have an A15 processor, which will succeed last year’s A14 chip.

It is also rumored that Apple will increase the storage capacity of the iPhone from a maximum of 512GB to 1TB. Even if you don’t need that much, this is probably good news. In the past, Apple has often deleted the smallest storage capacity when a new option was added. That would mean that all new iPhones have at least 128GB of storage instead of 64GB.

Furthermore, it is established that the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) has 5G. Hopefully, both Pro models can also handle the fastest variant of this new network, unlike their predecessors the iPhone 12 Pro (Max). But whether it is of any use to you in the Netherlands remains to be seen. The frequencies for this faster 5G variant will not be auctioned until 2022, which means that we do not have much use for 5G yet.
