Sharing a Netflix account costs up to 6 euros per month in the EU
Netflix has announced the prices for sharing your account for various European countries. The amount differs considerably per country and can amount to an amount of 6.00 euros per month.
Netflix: account sharing costs money
There have been reports for some time that Netflix will start charging money to those who share their account with others. This is about sharing the Netflix account outside your own household, so people who do not live at the same address. When Netflix detects that the account is being shared, the account administrator will be notified. Access is then either blocked or payment must be made. Netflix previously announced how this will be checked.
New rules have been introduced in several countries that require users to pay a levy if they share their account. The price differs (considerably) per country, as is clear from the announcement. When a fee is paid, the person with whom the account is shared can use Netflix on one device at a time. The movies and series can be downloaded offline, but there is only access for one profile. It is not possible to share an account if the primary owner of the account purchased his or her Netflix subscription through a provider or a third party.
Prices
The countries for which the new surcharges have now been announced are Spain, Portugal, New Zealand and Canada. For Canada, the equivalent amount is 5.54 euros per month (7.99 Canadian dollars). In New Zealand this is an amount of €4.73 per month (7.99 New Zealand dollars). In Portugal you are the ‘cheapest’ with a monthly amount of 3.99 euros. In Spain, the price is clearly higher at 5.99 euros per month. Prices for other countries will probably be announced soon.
