A few weeks ago, LG gave a first preview of a mobile phone that could be rolled out. So far we have only seen the unusual device in action from the front. The back also has a lot to offer, as it turns out.

LG Rollable has two separate displays

When LG showed the upcoming “Rollable” smartphone in action for the first time at CES 2021, we were thrilled. The group only demonstrated the rolling mechanism for a few seconds, but did not officially introduce the unique mobile phone. In fact, the rollable has more to offer than you would expect at first. The roll-out display, which turns the smartphone into a tablet, is of course the highlight. A patent revealed but now the secrets of the back. In fact, the display is probably not pulled from the back, but from the inside of the device. A second screen is installed on the back, which means that the mobile phone can be used normally. To the right of this is a triple camera that creates a notch in the screen.

So far we had thought that the display could be pulled from the back to the front. This is technically not yet feasible, so LG has to rely on this solution with the second display. All in all, of course, a very special construction that has never existed in this form before. Samsung showed a concept of a roll-out tablet many years ago, but was never able to turn it into reality. So LG would have really created something unique.

LG has also built another unusual smartphone:

Is LG leaving the smartphone market?

Even if the LG Rollable is a unique mobile phone, that doesn’t mean that the South Korean company will be successful with it. LG smartphones are selling very badly, so the company is even considering getting out of the mobile phone business. It remains to be seen whether this will really happen and whether the LG Rollable will only remain a dream.
