Samsung’s next smartwatch runs on Android

Until now, Samsung’s smartwatches are equipped with the Tizen operating system. This may change with the next model, according to new information.

Samsung watch without Tizen

If the Ice Universe information is correct, then Samsung’s latest smartwatch will no longer ship with Tizen. Samsung would opt for Android, or Google’s own Wear OS, instead. This is not completely new for Samsung. For example, an Android watch from Samsung was last released in 2014 under the name Gear Live. Since that time it has only been Tizen watches at Samsung.

Whether it will definitely be Wear OS, that is not entirely clear. It may also be that Samsung uses its own user interface, based on Android. The information comes from a usually knowledgeable source.

Recently, Samsung and Google have come a lot closer. We saw this reflected in various things. For example, on the Galaxy S21 series, the news page of Samsung itself can be replaced by Google Discover and Google would also want to get rid of Samsung Bixby. Until now, further information about Samsung’s smartwatch is lacking.
