Samsung would suspect fraud … its own processor division Samsung Foundry
Nothing is going well for the semiconductor division of Samsungwhich in recent months has been losing large contracts with large customers. Apple would thus have chosen TSMC for the production of modem chips for its iPhone 14 (and later models) and the same would soon be true for Qualcomm, which would no longer wish to collaborate with Samsung for the manufacture of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors. The production of the latest Snapdragon has even already been transferred to TSMC! Qualcomm would justify its decision by the low yields of Samsung Foundry, yields that would be around 35% barely. The next generation of Snapdragon (2023) would also have been entrusted to TSMC.
Samsung, the parent company, would have been surprised by this information on point to launch an internal investigation targeting Samsung Foundry executives! The latter would now be suspected of fraud following supposed concealments of the real yields of processors engraved in 5nm and 4nm. Samsung hasn’t publicly confirmed the information from SamMobile, but it’s hard to see the electronics giant failing to react vigorously after the loss of these large production contracts.
