Samsung SmartThings has received support for Android Auto
As part of the event Unpacked 2021 introduced the company Samsung and other innovations such as the Galaxy S21 series smartphones. According to the portal SamMobile announced that it would bring support Android Auto pre Samsung SmartThings. The functionality of this function in cars in Slovakia can be confirmed by us in our editorial office.
You will be able to control the household from the car manually, by voice or automatically
The new feature allows users to control their smart appliances in a smart home directly from the vehicle’s infotainment unit. Samsung has started introducing a new feature for selected users so far. According to the portal SamMobile the integration of Android Auto into the SmartThings application should be available from version 1.7.59.23. If you received this update on your smartphone, you can start using it today from the dashboard of your Android Auto-compatible car.
The Android Auto section appears in the app settings menu. You can then choose which SmartThings to display on your vehicle. After launching the application, you can turn on / off smart devices with a simple click. Automatic scene start notifications can be turned on / off from the menu Settings in the upper right corner of the application. You can also control devices in SmartThings by voice using the Google Assistant in Android Auto.
In total, up to six devices or SmartThings scenes can be selected. Scenes in SmartThings allow you to link multiple device actions to each other in one click. In Android Auto, you can also choose whether you want to be automatically notified when a scene starts approaching your home (or any selected location).
According to the available information, for example, the “Coming Home” function should be available, which automatically adjusts the heating settings, turns on the lights or opens the garage door when you get home. Of course, provided that this electronics is connected to a smart home. Remote activation of a dishwasher or robotic vacuum cleaner should also be on offer
Over time, there will be an opportunity to start the car
But these are not the only features that SmartThings support should bring. Owners of compatible vehicles will later be able to remotely start the engine or modify the ventilation system via telephone. Probably the most anticipated novelty, however, will be the so-called Digital keys to work with ultra-wideband technology (UWB). Thanks to it, the mobile phone will serve as a key and the car should be unlocked as soon as you approach it with your phone.
More information on this upcoming feature is not known, but it is likely to share access to the car between multiple smartphones, such as within the home. However, Samsung added that so far it has only worked with Audi, BMW, Ford and Genesis to make this functionality available. We’ll learn more about other features soon.
