Samsung promises up to 5 years of updates for some models

Samsung has recently been surprised by the regularity of updates. Who would have thought that one day the South Korean giant would be better off in this area than, for example, one OnePlus. However, it is no wonder, as it has already happened that Samsung brought a security patch before Google itself.

Now the company pleasantly surprises us again and claims that it will update some flagship models for up to five years. According to the Android Authority portal, not everything is as rosy as it might seem at first glance.

Five-year support for security updates applies to Enterprise editions of smartphones. Yet

Devices that are part of the five-year security update program are from the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy XCover 5 and Galaxy Tab Active 3 series.

Enterprise editions of smartphones from Samsung are simply smartphones designed for business. Their software has been modified for better security and to work with certain applications. On the other hand, the news that the manufacturer may later extend this five-year support to commonly available models.

Samsung is currently promising four years of security updates for flagship models. It is worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 have been updated for four years, while over time, monthly updates have only been split into quarterly updates. Nevertheless, it is more than respectable support from Samsung.

As for the competition in the field of regular updates, it is worth mentioning the novelty, which says that older Honor models will still be supported by the parent company Huawei.

Of course, Samsung is working on updates to its devices, and the latest news speaks of the Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy A52 or Galaxy S21 Ultra models. The older Xiaomi Mi 8 phone recently received an update with the MIUI 12.5 extension. Finally, we will also mention LG, which released Android 11 for the LG Velvet smartphone.
