Samsung has patented interesting mobile cameras for mobile phones

LetsGoDigital editorial office, which specializes in detecting and visualization of patents, has another interesting notch on his account. She discovered a registration in the documents, which points to very unconventional moving cameras on the back of a mobile phone. The patent comes from Samsung’s Electro-Mechanics division and the cameras are supposed to be able to change their aperture by sliding in the grooves. This would be a very interesting opportunity for variability in taking pictures. The documents were registered last autumn.

According to the drawings and the description, the camera lenses should be in one straight line in the first position, in the second case they would form the vertices of a triangle. In each of these two configurations, each optic would “sit” on a different basis. We are talking about a main, widescreen and telephoto camera. A change in aperture that determines the light transmission to the sensor, would essentially create a new kind of very capable photomobiles.

However, the theoretical advantages are also balanced by the looming disadvantages. Moving parts of cameras, especially on the sensitive backs of mobile phones, can be, for example quite prone to failure. The waterproofness would probably suffer (or disappear altogether). However, Samsung already has some experience with moving cameras, so let’s not be surprised if this patent really translates from paper into reality.

How well do you know the parameters of the cameras in your mobile phone?
