Samsung has introduced its new chipset for wearable electronics

TheVerge web portal reports that Samsung has introduced a new chipset for smart watches and wearable electronics in general. It is marked Exynos W920. It will bring higher performance and at the same time lower battery consumption. That’s good for a watch after all. So let’s say something about this chip.

Energy-efficient cores were used for the new chipset

Exynos W920 is manufactured with the most modern, 5 nm production technology. This is the first chip for wearable devices, which can boast of a 5 nm manufacturing process. It helps improve performance and efficiency. Overall, lower battery power consumption can be expected. The processor consists of a pair of Cortex-A55 cores and a Mali-G68 graphics accelerator. For comparison, we will mention that currently the most powerful chipset from the workshop of the American giant Qualcomm, Snapdragon 888, also consists of four Cortex-A55 cores.

However, they are characterized as economical and work in cases where it is possible to save energy. When the Exynos W920 is compared to its predecessor, CPU performance will increase by 20 percent, while graphics will be accelerated by an amazing 100 percent. The Cortex-M55 will then be dedicated to power the Always-On Display function. During its operation, it is again possible to expect reduced battery consumption.

The Exynos W920 could be used in a new watch in a short time

Many things suggest that we will not have to wait a very long time to see the use of this new chipset for wearable devices in practice. Samsung recently joined forces with US giant Google and agreed to use Wear OS on the watch. It will replace the Tizen operating system used so far. We do not know if the newly introduced Exynos W920 will also appear on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, which will take place in a few hours. We will be surprised.
