Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 gets a double-sided fingerprint scanner
Samsung has plans for a special fingerprint scanner that works on both sides. The intention is that it will get a place in a foldable phone such as the Z Fold 4 that has a screen on both sides. It is not known whether the technology is really in development.
Samsung’s double-sided fingerprint scanner
For starters: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a foldable phone that unfolds like a book. On the front is a smaller 6.2-inch screen, but there’s an even larger 7.6-inch panel on the inside. Since users are getting started with two screens, the phone does not have a fingerprint scanner under each screen, but it does have a scanner on the side.
Samsung now wants to improve the technology for its foldables, according to a patent application that LetsGoDigital could view. Samsung wants to place a fingerprint scanner in the phone that can work on both sides. It can therefore be used on the smaller screen on the outside as well as on the tablet-sized screen on the inside. The patent application was filed on March 31, 2021 and a 51-page document was published on October 7.
When are we going to see this?
It is not yet known whether we can expect this function in a next foldable phone in 2022. Such a double-sided scanner could just pop up in the Galaxy Z Fold 4, although there is also a chance that Samsung will need more time to master the technology.
