Samsung Galaxy Watch4 (Classic): this is new

Samsung announces their new generation of smartwatches with the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic and of course there is a laundry list of improvements. Worth the upgrade?

The wearables market has grown enormously in recent years. Wearing a watch is nothing new, but a watch with a little extra is a cool solution. A lot of brands already offer wearables for their own devices, such as Apple and Samsung, but third parties are also increasingly releasing smartwatches. Now, however, it is Samsung’s turn to focus on their own smartwatches. Samsung also releases the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic.

Samsung Galaxy Watch4

In terms of styling, the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 resembles its predecessor, but that quickly happens with a smartwatch. We’re going to talk about differences between the Watch4 and the Classic in a moment. In appearance, the difference is simple: the Classic lives up to its name by looking more like a classic watch, while the regular Watch4 has more of a modern smartwatch design.

Functions

Of course there is news to report about the new features and functions of the new Samsung Galaxy Watch4. To start with activities, for which people often want a smartwatch or wearable. Samsung has changed a few things to map this a bit better than before. The BioActive Sensor can accurately read your blood pressure, heart rate and the oxygen percentage in your blood to paint a good picture of your health. A new Body Composition function maps your body as accurately as possible to display your muscle mass, fat percentage and body water.

If you prefer to lie on one ear, the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 now also better measures your sleep rhythm. Here too, your blood oxygen is tracked and the sound of snoring is also recognized. This results in a sleep pattern in which the software can draw up an advice to help you relax even better.

Wear OS

A large part of the new functions of the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 can be found in the software thanks to a new Operating System. An already announced change: Samsung had their own Tizen system, but that is now being handed in for Wear OS from Google. Of course, this is linked to a Samsung interface that the brand calls “One UI”. It’s just like a Samsung smartphone: the foundation is Android, with a touch of Samsung’s own over it. One UI is meant to be more intuitive than ever.

Communication and unity with your phone is especially important. Apps that you download on your phone that are compatible with your smartwatch are immediately put on your watch. Also important settings sync between Watch and phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 obviously has a touchscreen, but you can also operate it with Bixby Voice by talking to it and turning the ring around the screen. You can also record calls by moving your wrist: twice up and down is recording, turning twice is ignoring.

Technic

To dive into the figures of the Samsung Galaxy Watch4: Samsung has again worked on extra powerful performance compared to the predecessor. There’s now an Exynos W920 Dual Core 5nm processor that makes the CPU 20 percent more powerful, there’s 50 percent more RAM (1.5 GB in total) to work with, and the GPU is also “ten times faster.” The resolution is now 450×450 pixels and the Watch has an internal memory of 16 GB.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 also works with eSim, so that phone calls and text messages can go through your watch. So if you want to run and it is not practical to take your phone with you, you can still be reached through your Watch. You can also leave your phone on dry land when you go out on the water, because with IP68 water resistance, it can withstand wet. It must always be said that swimming with your watch on is a risk at all times.

A fully charged Watch4 lasts 40 hours, but giving the thing a 30-minute power nap provides another 10 hours of activity.

Watch4 and Watch4 Classic

As promised, also about the differences between the regular and the Classic: as said, especially that the Classic looks more like a classic watch with the large ring around the screen.
