Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra: preview and photo series
Samsung has just announced the new Galaxy S22 series. DroidApp was already allowed to try the Galaxy S22, S22+ and the S22 Ultra. We share our first impression.

Hands on with the Galaxy S22
Actually every brand comes at the beginning of the new year with a new high-end series of smartphones. So is Samsung, which today presented the Galaxy S22 series. The last Note device was released last year. However, Samsung has released a nice replacement for this in the sense of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Samsung was well aware that there is certainly still a group of users who value this series. In addition to the Ultra, there are also the Galaxy S22+ and the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Samsung Galaxy S22
We start with the Samsung Galaxy S22. This is a nice compact device, which fits quite well in the hand, although it feels slightly different in the hand than the S21. In a positive sense, because although you feel the edges better, it seems a bit less smooth (at first feeling) and that is only better. Smaller, but not badly equipped. The specifications correspond to the other models. There is a 6.1-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED screen and an Exynos 2200 chipset. The Samsung gets a triple camera full of features and does its job well at first glance.
Samsung Galaxy S22+
Then there is the Samsung Galaxy S22+. An ideal choice if you don’t want to make any concessions and don’t want a ‘phone fridge’. With the Samsung Galaxy S22+ you have the same feeling as the S22, but a bit bigger. There is a 4500 mAh battery and unlike the S22, you can charge it with 45W; where with the S22 this comes out at 25W. There is, however, a significant additional cost; 200 euros above the price of the S22.
In terms of colors, the two devices are available in the same colors. This means black, white, rose gold and green. I personally think the green is a really nice color. The pink-gold will appeal to many women with its subtle soft pink glow in the housing.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
For those who want to get the most out of their smartphone, there is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, as Samsung describes. Where with the S21 Ultra the S Pen could only be taken along in the cover, or separately, that is clearly better solved with the S22 Ultra. At the bottom you can store the S Pen in the left corner. This is also one of the key features of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
S Pen
The S Pen gives a lot of extra options to the device. For example, you can convert handwritten texts into texts; something that still works well. You can also take advanced screenshots and of course draw and color. With the PenUp app it should be possible to take your drawing skills to the next level. We know from previous reviews that this works very well.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has also received improvements in the camera area, which the other two S22 models have to miss. For example, the smartphone is equipped with 10x zoom without loss of quality, this is 3x with the other models. So you can get closer to a subject that is further away. Everything worked smoothly and pleasantly; although much can only be said after an extensive review.
Still about the colors; the Galaxy Note 22 Ultra comes in Burgundy, a special color. I thought he looked nice in the press photos; in practice I found it very disappointing. It is darker and close to brown. Of course this is a personal taste. In addition, the Galaxy Note 22 Ultra is the largest phone of the three and it is quite possible that you do not want to walk with such a large smartphone.
First Judgment
As far as I’m concerned, Samsung has released another set of beautiful smartphones with the Galaxy S22 series, again with improvements. There are no major changes, with the exception of the Ultra, but it is a fresh improvement. Samsung also has a very good update policy; which is matched with the S22 series. This means at least 5 years of security updates and at least four Android OS upgrades. Of course you get to know the devices best when you use them for a longer period of time. Soon we expect the review samples and we will work extensively with them.
