Samsung Galaxy S21 probably cheaper than its predecessor – with a catch? ApkRig

Rumor has it that it won’t be long before Samsung introduces the Galaxy S21 series. And the South Koreans may have a very pleasant surprise in their luggage. Because all new models should be cheaper than their predecessors. The only question is whether there would be a catch here. Does the group want to make the switch to cheaper materials a little more digestible?

After the price of new smartphones has climbed to new heights again and again in recent years, a trend reversal is now to take place with the Galaxy S21, as the South Korean publication Naver reports. According to a Korean insider, Samsung is really turning the price screw – this time for the benefit of the customer. The Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra are said to be around $ 100 cheaper than their predecessors.

This is what the prices could look like

The prices are said to be as follows:

  • Galaxy S21: $ 850- $ 899
  • Galaxy S21 +: $ 1050-1099
  • Galaxy S20 Ultra: $ 1250 – $ 1299

These values can usually be converted almost one-to-one into euros, as American prices do not include sales tax. For comparison: The Galaxy S20 started in Germany for 899 euros, but only in the LTE version. However, 999 euros were due for the 5G model. The upcoming Galaxy S21 is expected to be available exclusively with 5G – and would still be 100 euros cheaper than the corresponding version of the S20.

The Galaxy S20 + 5G cost 1099 euros at the market launch in this country and the Galaxy S20 Ultra cracked a price record with 1349 euros. In 2021, Samsung is apparently putting a little on the brakes, especially with the absolute high-end device. But remember: These prices are still just a rumor. It is quite possible that the manufacturer’s next flagship generation will start a little more expensive or even cheaper than shown here in Germany.

Cost savings through plastic?

But nothing in life is free and so far it is unclear how Samsung intends to achieve a price reduction on the top models in 20201. One possibility would be to use cheaper material. We suspect that at least the Galaxy S21 will have a plastic back. The Note 20 also had to make do with this less high-quality material, which hardly sparked any enthusiasm.

In addition, the Galaxy S20 FE shows that Samsung is ready to compromise on its flagships. Technically, the Fan Edition can convince, especially thanks to the Snapdragon 865, but the feel is significantly less high-quality than real high-end devices with a metal or glass back. For this we had to deduct a few points from the device in our test.

Thus, within a few months, Samsung has released two luxury class smartphones with plastic backs. It is therefore quite possible that the manufacturer will continue the trend. At least the negative reactions to the Note 20 could also ensure that no plastic is built into the S21. Here we have to be patient and wait for the official announcement. Allegedly, January 20201 has already come. This is also indicated by the fact that Samsung is apparently already making the S21 + ready for sale.
