‘Samsung Galaxy S21 FE comes with Exynos processor due to chip shortage’

Samsung is going to release the Galaxy S21 FE partly with Exynos processors. The brand does this because of the worldwide chip shortage as a result of the corona crisis. The phone also still comes with the Snapdragon 888 and is expected in the fourth quarter.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE Issue

Samsung has a problem with its budget flagship, the Galaxy S21 FE. It is the last phone from the S21 series that would first hit the market in August. However, due to the chip shortage, the future of the phone became uncertain and it was leaked that it will only be available in a select few markets, including Europe.

Nevertheless, Samsung still seems to be looking for solutions with which it can counteract the consequences of the chip shortage. According to a source from the South Korean Maeil Business, the manufacturer is now considering the phone to appear with two different chipsets: on the one hand the Snapdragon 888 as already planned, but now also with an Exynos processor.

Still insecure

It is not known which Exynos chipset it is exactly, but we suspect that it is the Exynos 2100, the chipset that Samsung also uses in the other S21 devices. For the time being, there is no news about which variant is used in which region, because Samsung has not yet made a final decision on this possible strategy. The brand traditionally releases its flagships with a Qualcomm chipset in Europe, but the Fan Edition was just an exception last year.

It may seem like a natural solution for Samsung to launch the S21 FE with two processors, but there is a lot involved. The chipset works like the heart of a smartphone, and every component from the camera to the screen and software support has to be optimized again with a second chipset. Although Samsung may be able to use its work with the Exynos variant of the regular S21 as a guideline.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE would not appear until the fourth quarter of 2021. Specifications and renders of the phone have already been leaked, and the phone was also shown on Samsung’s website. The device would be significantly cheaper than the regular Samsung Galaxy S21.
