Galaxy A54 is slightly more compact and heavier

You read that right, this time Samsung has made the screen of the Galaxy A54 a fraction smaller compared to its predecessor. This makes the Galaxy A54 a bit more compact. The edges are a bit thinner than those of its predecessors. In addition, the phone is less angular and the camera island has made way for three slightly protruding separate cameras. This makes the phone more compatible with Samsung’s latest Galaxy line.

The Galaxy A54 has also gained a little weight. The phone weighs 202 grams compared to the 189 grams of the A53 5G.

Galaxy A54 is faster and has more memory

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G gets an Exynos 1380 chipset, which is the successor to the Exynos 1280 from the Galaxy A53. That chipset is a bit more powerful and more energy efficient than its predecessor.

The Samsung Galaxy A54 also comes with 8 GB of RAM as standard. The Samsung Galaxy A53 also has a variant with 6 GB of RAM. The storage memory has remained the same.

Galaxy A54 has slightly different cameras

Samsung has deleted one camera on the Galaxy A54 and that is not a bad thing at all. The depth camera is no longer there and that function will probably be taken over by one of the other cameras and a bit of artificial intelligence. In addition, the main camera of the Galaxy A54 has been modified in a 50 MP one instead of a 64 MP sensor. However, megapixels mean little and we expect the Galaxy A54 to be able to shoot better pictures.

Same battery and housing

Both the Samsung Galaxy A53 and the Samsung Galaxy A54 have a 5,000 mAh battery that can be charged at 25W. The housing is also made of the same materials, glass on the front and plastic on the back. Both have an IP67 certificate. This means that the phones, if submerged, are protected for half an hour to a depth of 1 meter.

Should you upgrade if you have a Galaxy A53 5G?

In general, the Galaxy A54 5G offers slightly faster performance, more RAM as standard and a more compact and less angular design. In addition, with this device you can go one year longer in terms of updates. If these are the improvements you’re looking for, then it’s worth moving from the Galaxy A53 5G to the Galaxy A54 5G. If you were hoping for bigger camera improvements, you may now be disappointed. Are you attached to the depth camera? Then you better stick with the A53 5G. Although a depth sensor, believe us, has very little (or no) added value.

If you’re coming from a Galaxy A52, then the Galaxy A54 5G will be a slightly bigger upgrade over your current phone. Then of course there is the price. For the Galaxy A54 5G you pay 30 euros more for the same memory variant, the one with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. In addition, the variant with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage of the Galaxy A53 5G is currently a lot cheaper. The middle class got a suggested retail price of 449 euros and you can now buy the phone for about 350 euros.

So the choice is yours. Which of these two phones appeals to you the most? Let us know in the comments below this article.
