Robotic vacuum cleaner with a lot of clever ideas

I’ve been very happy to test robotic vacuum cleaners lately. Technologies are advancing at an incredible pace, as evidenced by the new Roborock S7. Robotic vacuum cleaners can work practically completely independently, but it is necessary to create suitable conditions for them. Nothing is 100%.

Roborock is already an established brand among vacuum cleaners

I have only the best experience with Roborock vacuum cleaners. I especially appreciate the great orientation in the room and higher models can avoid obstacles that you may have forgotten. The latest Roborock S7 is no exception and comes with some useful news.

I had the opportunity to test the vacuum cleaner for only a few days, this article is more about the first impressions and observations I came up with in this short time. Not a complete review.

The vacuum cleaner is just coming to Slovak stores, its price will be around 580 euros. This is definitely not enough, from the Roborock family it is the most expensive model. It will be available in white and black, I personally like white more. It is more photogenic and fits perfectly into minimalist spaces. Last but not least, it also takes significantly less fingerprints and does not need to be polished as often.

Roborock S7 is loaded with modern technologies

At first glance, it is clear that he belongs to the Roborock family. Again, he has an unmistakable laser scanner that helps him orient himself in the room. Already during the first mapping of rooms, it is possible to see in the application places where the vacuum cleaner has not yet been, but this sensor has registered them. Thanks to it, the vacuum cleaner has no problem with orientation in complete darkness.

There are also other sensors on the underside that prevent you from falling down the stairs. Compared to the older model, the S6 MaxV, which I had the opportunity to test, I miss the cameras here. Thanks to them, I was able to see what the vacuum cleaner sees in real time.

It can be seen that the manufacturer tried to think about the details. The charging station has been improved with “bristles” located in front of the charging surfaces. This means that as the vacuum cleaner returns to the charger, its connectors will clean these bristles. Very nice little thing.

Speaking of the charging dock, I would also accept a version with a discharge station, such as the more expensive iRobot Roomba S9 +. The waste container has a volume of less than half a liter and must be emptied regularly. With such a station, this need would be reduced to an absolute minimum. I like that the charging dock now has one adhesive on the bottom in addition to the classic anti-slip rubber bands. The problems with possible shifting completely disappeared.

The application is reworked down to the smallest detail

As we are a portal about smartphones and smart things, the application and cooperation with a smartphone deserves a separate part. Here it is traditionally very good. The initial pairing was easy. The Roborock application will be used for this. Just log in (register) and start the pairing process.

All I had to do was open the top hatch to reveal the waste container. The vacuum cleaner switches to pairing mode and the smartphone finds it. Then just select the Wi-Fi network to connect to, all pairing processes will take place and you’re done. The vacuum cleaner can be controlled completely via the Internet, the smartphone does not have to be on the same network. This means that I can start vacuuming, for example, even when I’m in the store.

In the application I see the current position of the vacuum cleaner and also which parts of the room have already passed. The movement itself when vacuuming is logical, and the better he knows the map, the faster and more efficiently he vacuums. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the Roborock S6 MaxV can show me and even take pictures of what object it has avoided. The novelty cannot do this.

Roborock S7 is not only a vacuum cleaner, but also a mop. Changes have also taken place in this area, fortunately only for the better. After the new one, the water container is already separate, as is the part with a cloth, which is used for moping. It was this system that was redesigned.

Roborock S7 has an improved moping system

The part to which you attach the mop cloth now vibrates during mopping. The result is better depth moping. And indeed, the Roborock S7 can clean even dirt that its predecessor did not handle. The water tank must be refilled regularly. In the application, of course, I can choose the suction power and the amount of water dispensed. Even during vacuuming / moping.

I even found interesting settings related to moping in the application. The vacuum cleaner can automatically detect the carpet and increase the vacuuming performance. If a mop is also attached, it can be lifted on the carpet or avoided completely. Everything can be set in the application. I can set the vacuuming intensity for each room separately.

Final rating

Roborock S7 is an expensive robotic vacuum cleaner by the manufacturer, but it compensates for the higher price with features. It has traditionally offered a great and reliable application with many settings. The moping has been improved, thanks to which it can now be cleaned even deeper.

Laser navigation is simply great, vacuuming fast, suction power very good. The battery life per charge is 180 minutes, which is enough even for really large rooms. And if that’s not enough, he can come back, recharge and continue while vacuuming.

I definitely recommend the Roborock S7 vacuum cleaner, it is very difficult to find shortcomings. But I also pay attention to the Roborock S6 MaxV model, which also offers artificial intelligence and cameras. The S7, on the other hand, offers better and more comfortable moping, better attachment of the charging station, even with bristles that automatically clean the connectors.
