Review round-up iMac 2021: this is what international media think

The first reviews of the M1 iMac have arrived. International media have already started working with the desktop with a new screen and Apple’s own M1 chip. In this review round-up, we list their findings.

M1 iMac review round-up

The new iMac with M1 chip is a striking appearance. The new design of the desktop provoked varying responses. The iMac is available in different colors – green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver and the screen has white edges. But that’s not all. The new design hides bigger changes. The most important development is that the iMac 2021, like the Macbook, is equipped with the M1 chip from Apple. This makes Intel chips a thing of the past.

All in all, the reactions are mostly positive. However, there is also room for criticism.

The Verge

The Verge is very pleased with the implementation of the M1 chip. In addition to all other improvements, the new processor stands head and shoulders above the rest. In particular, the efficiency with which the chip works is described with great enthusiasm in the review.

However, there are also some downsides. For example, The Verge is less happy with the limited number of Thunderbolt and USB ports. The conclusion is therefore that the iMac 2021 is not suitable for people who are looking for the very best price-quality ratio.

Tech Crunch

Also Tech Crunch first pays a lot of attention to the switch from Intel processors to the proprietary M1 chip. Then the focus is placed on the new design. “I best summarize the iMac’s overarching theme as cute,” said Tech Crunch’s Brian Heater. This striking choice of words is mainly linked to the various colorful versions that make you long for the iMac G3 era.

Finally, Tech Crunch extensively tests the camera and microphone system of the iMac with M1 chip. Since the desktop was launched during a period of intensive home working, the improvements come at the right time. The camera in particular makes a big leap forward compared to the iMac from 2020. “The picture differs as day and night.”

Marques Brownlee

“The iMac 2021 is much better than its predecessor.” With this comment put Marques Brownlee the positive tone. Once again, the review starts with the improved performance due to the arrival of the M1 chip.

After this, Brownlee shifted the focus to design. In the video all innovations in the field of design are discussed. This also applies to the white screen edges and the large chin at the bottom of the screen. Brownlee is not a fan, but does emphasize that design choices fit the look of a family computer that stands prominently in a living room.
