Retaliation? Xiaomi has started blocking the additional installation of Google applications

The conflict between the US authorities and the Chinese company Xiaomi seems to be growing to very unpleasant proportions. After the United States placed the company on a list of unwanted ones due to alleged links to the Chinese military, the company responded with a lawsuit a few days ago. In addition, she has now reached for a retaliatory solution that directly affects the owners of her mobile phones. It is in China at the moment blocked the possibility of additional installation of Google services and applications on Xiaomi phones. This means that devices that do not have the GMS alias Google Mobile Services at the factory block their installation.

This fact was first noticed by some customers. The decision was subsequently confirmed in the local media by the company itself. It did not specify which specific models were involved, however the consequences are reported by telephone users like Redmi K30 Ultra or Redmi 10X 5G. Even mobile phones that did not have GMS as standard equipment had the option of installing them additionally in China. Probably mainly due to business pushes, but Xiaomi no longer wants to mediate something like that. The block currently concerns the new MIUI system 12.5.

GMS is a necessary foundation for the functionality of most Google applications. Without this package, they either cannot run or do not work properly. Owners of the latest Huawei phones could talk about it. Fortunately, the blocked installation of Google services and applications now only affects Xiaomi mobile owners in China from the perspective of the rest of the world. We are very curious as the situation develops. XIaomi is not yet on such a critical list as Huawei. However, due to the ongoing fighting, another unpleasant change may soon occur.
