Researchers are working on a corona test via your phone screen

British researchers are working on a method to determine whether someone is infected with the corona virus via the screen of a telephone.

Corona test via your phone screen

The researchers call it Phone Screen Testing (PoST) and through this method a sample is taken from the screen. That reports NU.nl. Virus particles appear on the screen during the call and virus particles can also end up on the screen via swiping.

According to the researchers, the outcome is just as reliable as that of the commonly used PCR test, in which you get a test stick in your nose and mouth, but less invasive. That could help people with symptoms get tested earlier. The researchers also indicate that PoST is a cheaper alternative for poor countries, where vaccination rates are even lower.

Currently, corona infections are detected via mucus samples from the nose and throat. If someone has antibodies against the coronavirus in the blood, it can also be determined that that person has had corona. In the Netherlands, a lot of work is being done on the CoronaCheck app, which, together with the Digital Corona Certificate, should make traveling within the European Union run smoothly this year.
