Replace or remove Airpods Max headband with paper clip
It’s quite easy to replace the AirPods Max headband, iFixit said. The website shows in a teardown how to remove the headband with a paper clip or the standard SIM card tool.

AirPods Max headband easy to replace with paper clip
It seems that the AirPods Max is easier to personalize than initially thought. From a video of iFixit shows that it is possible to disconnect the headband, without disassembling the headphones. Users simply remove the magnetic ear pads, fold the ear cups flat and insert a paper clip into a small hole above the speaker.
Once unplugged, small connectors can be seen on either side of the headband. These connections appear to be for supplying power and data to the earcups. It is therefore very likely that users will be able to swap the headbands of different vanAirPods Max headphones. With the option of composing new color combinations, even when they are no longer in stock.
Before the launch of the AirPods Max, there was already suspicion of possible replaceable headbands. However, just prior to launch, this rumor seemed to have dropped. Now it seems that switching between headbands is possible after all. The Cupertino company continues the concept behind the replaceable Apple Watch straps.
It is equally possible that the modular function exists only for better repairability. This also explains directly why Apple itself has hidden the function.
Users who want to remove or change the AirPods Max headband should proceed with caution. It is not yet certain whether the disconnection affects the warranty of the product.
AirPods Max carriers complain: Apple headphones drain quickly
The teardown of iFixit is not the only news about the Airpods Max. In recent days, the official Apple forum and Reddit have been filling up with complaints about a rapidly draining AirPods Max battery. Users reported that during the night, the battery drains to a percentage of 0 or 1 percent. It does not matter whether the Apple headphones are in the included Smart Case storage cover or not.
