readers prefer the fingerprint scanner on the back

In our poll this week, we asked where our readers prefer to have the fingerprint scanner in their phone. We totally understand why manufacturers are so different about this, because opinions vary widely. Still, the majority of people (29 percent) prefer the fingerprint scanner on the back of the device.

fingerprint scanner

We asked the question about the fingerprint scanner because Xiaomi is said to have developed technology that would allow the entire phone screen to recognize a fingerprint. However, the choice is not massively welcomed, according to the results of our poll: 29 percent want the fingerprint scanner at the back, 23 percent on the side (on/off button), 22 percent at the bottom of the phone’s screen and 22 percent in the entire screen of the phone, as Xiaomi seems to be planning.

A very small part would like the home button to be the place for the fingerprint scanner again, namely 3 percent. Ultimately, there is also a small percent who would rather see the fingerprint scanner elsewhere. The funny thing is that this poll not only showed big differences in the results: the reactions also lie. There was even a mini-discussion between Refrigerator and Nobody. Refrigerator would like to see no fingerprint scanner, only facial recognition.

Gloves on

Nobody likes that, since face masks often throw a spanner in the works. To which Refrigerator cleverly and given the name somewhat ironically answers: “Oh, with the cold weather you also have gloves on.” You would think so, but Nobody doesn’t. And we agree with Nobody in a way, because if there is something irritating in controlling a smartphone, it is a glove.

All kidding aside, opinions are divided. JelleRuben has a phone with a fingerprint scanner on the back and one with a fingerprint scanner on the front, and he doesn’t care where he is. -Rrichiej- not really, he even chooses his smartphone based on the presence of a fingerprint scanner under the screen.

From the front, to the back, from…

If we look at our poll, we see that opinions have changed. In 2016, people wanted it much more at the front than at the rear, but that has changed a lot in the meantime. It also depends on how you use it: one person likes it when a phone unlocks quickly, while another makes a lot of pocket calls that way. Fortunately, there is plenty of choice in the location of the fingerprint scanner, although the big question is what will happen when Xiaomi really comes on the market with that under-the-full-screen technology.

We’ll probably be a lot of polls further before that. Until next week!
