PS5: an alert if you are playing the PS4 version of a game

Sony is offering an update for its PS5 which will be of particular interest to players who have games with a PS4 version and a PS5 version. For some odd reason, the PS5 has so far released the PS4 version, at least by default. The user then had to go to settings to make the change. It is changing today.

A new pop-up appears on the screen when a game has both the PS4 version and the PS5 version. “You’re going to be playing the PS4 version of this game. Do you want to upgrade to the PS5 version? “, can we read. The player can then select “Play the PS4 version” or “Switch to the PS5 version”. Obviously, it is strongly recommended to choose the second option to have an optimal experience.

Note that this pop-up only seems to appear on games that have had the right to a free update for the PS5 version. Games that require separate purchase (such as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered or Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition) do not have this pop-up because it is not needed.

This “problem” with the PS4 or PS5 version of a game is mostly a reality today. The reason is simple: developers are creating optimized versions of their PS4 games. In a few years, new games will only be released on the new console.
