Poof! Gone are your photos and videos after one look in WhatsApp
WhatsApp introduces a new feature. If you look at photos or videos once, they are gone. Read here how it works.
The messaging service is adding this feature in a beta version. The new feature lets you send photos and videos that automatically disappear. The recipient can see it once. Once you close the screen or go elsewhere, they are gone. Handy if you’re going to share a photo, but don’t want to keep it with the recipient forever.
See once in WhatsApp
The new function is called ‘View Once’. Logical name and covers the load well. By the way, since last year you can already give your messages an expiration date in the messaging service. In a conversation, you can automatically delete messages after seven days. According to WABetaInfo, this feature was appreciated by users and WhatsApp is therefore rolling out this variant in the beta version.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained the new feature. Facebook owns the messaging service. The recipient of the images can therefore only view them once, which should result in more privacy. This topic has been a hot issue lately. Especially with social media such as Facebook. Instagram also has this feature and now WhatsApp is following.
How to use?
You must have the beta version of WhatsApp (2.21.14.3 ). Then open a chat and add images. So that can be a photo or a video and you do that with your camera or your gallery. At the bottom you have the box ‘add caption’. An icon has been added with a 1. Tap on that and the function is on. Childishly simple.
What’s also easy is taking a screenshot. So you are not sure that, for example, your photo is really gone. Maybe WhatsApp will fix that in the future, then the function would be complete.
