Polestar 3 will be equipped with Android Automotive again

Polestar’s third electric car will be launched in America in 2022. The car will, how could it be otherwise, be called Polestar 3 as opposed to the first two Polestar cars, which will be an SUV.

Polestar 3 gets Android Automotive

Polestar is Volvo’s own competitor to Tesla and the subsidiary brand is now working on a successor to the first and second Polestar. The Polestar 3 is Polestar’s first all-electric SUV. Another first, the SUV is also being produced in America for the first time. The SUV will be launched there in 2022. The Polestar 3, which is destined for the European market, comes from Volvo’s Chinese factory.

The Swedish carmaker indicates that the Polestar 3 is built in America for Americans: “Production in the US reduces delivery times and the environmental impact associated with transporting cars around the world. It will also have a positive effect on the consumer price of the Polestar 3.” The image above already shows the contours of the electric SUV.

The Volvo Polestar 2 was the first car with Android Automotive, made especially for cars. The Polestar 3 will once again feature the latest version of the native Android Automotive operating system, which debuted in the Polestar 2.

What is Android Automotive?

Android Automotive goes one step further than Android Auto. It is a complete operating system that runs on Android. You can not only operate Android apps with it, but also things like the air conditioning, sunroof or windows. The Google Assistant and a Play Store are also present on this system. Google works closely with car brands for Android Automotive to integrate its services directly into the interface of the car’s infotainment system. Google announced during this year’s I/O conference that Android Automotive is coming to many more car brands. Volvo and Audi already announced in 2017 to build Android Automotive in their cars and Ford will follow in 2023 with new cars.
