Play the free card game Doomtrooper from the nineties -apkrig
I don’t know how you did it in elementary school, but at our school in the second half of the 1990s, a madness called Doomtrooper hit hard. It was a popular collectible card game set in the post-apocalyptic world of Mutant Chronicles during its mayfly life. Thanks to the complete Czech localization, relatively easy rules and the attractive world, I spent more time with it than, be careful, I’ll say it with the Star Trek Customizable Card Game from the Decipher company.
Today, Doomtrooper is an almost forgotten game and brand, but fortunately there are a few other fools like me who remember it with a tear in their eye. However, while I stayed with my carefully packed package, others are still actively involved in the game, even with us. And then there are the developers from the Secret Cow Level studio, to whom even this was not enough.
Thanks to them, you can play an early access version on Steam simply called Doomtrooper CCG. The game is currently available for free and its basis corresponds to the original. From your hand, you bring fighters to the table, who gain victory points by eliminating opponents. Whoever reaches the prescribed number first wins. The currency is the so-called destiny points, which you earn in various ways, but most often by meditating when you sacrifice one of the actions of your round and then defeating an opponent, when you can turn part of the victory points into destiny points.
Of course, you have various equipment and modifications, but as I wrote at the beginning, the original game was not particularly complicated at first. There are seven factions to choose from, from which you can build your package. Each has its own unique cards and way of fighting. Once you go through the introductory tutorial, you can continue to play alone in multiplayer.
The game successfully passed the Kickstarter campaign in 2017, where its digital reimagination raised over $ 31,000 from less than six hundred fans. Early access version is available from last August. Because it is very community-oriented, feedback from players is crucial for authors. The full version will naturally offer even more content, and even if the game remains free-to-play, it will then rely more on monetization through expanding card decks.
It is too early for any evaluation. The game is developed and I take that into account. Plus, I’ve just tried it so far. But if I did blame something on the current version, it would be a presentation. Although I respect that this is a small project for a very specific group of players, the game would look more attractive. The original card game excelled with beautiful stylization and beautiful artwork. Of course, you can also find them in the digital game, but the overall atmosphere is very sterile and the environment could build more on authentic scenes from the world of Mutant Chronicles.
Doomtrooper CCG is available for Windows, Mac and Linux
The first game by this brand
One may be surprised that a game from Adrenalin Entertainment called Mutant Chronicles: Doom Troopers or simply Doom Troopers was released for SNES and Mega Drive in 1995. It’s an action platformer in which you can play under Mitch Hunter and Max Steiner, even in cooperation with two.
