Plants in the nursery: you should pay attention to this

Compared to all the things you need to consider when decorating a nursery, styling plants in the nursery is relatively easy. However, it is useful to read this:

1. Less is more

As great as such a mini jungle can be: to maintain that serene look of a baby’s room, you achieve the best effect with one beautiful plant. Keep it minimalist and go for a statement plant or a small group of hanging plants. Green really adds something to a room, but too much can also make you restless.

2. Soft, Round Shapes

A cactus in the nursery? Mme. Rather avoid spiky or pointed foliage and opt for soft, rounded shapes.

3. Harmless Plants

That may not be so relevant for babies yet, but that baby will eventually become a toddler with grabbing hands. Put safety above all else and go for a plant that won’t harm pets and children if they accidentally put it in their mouth.

Which plants should you have?

Good: now that you know what it is better to leave out (that cactus), you also want to know which plants do well in the nursery. We have listed several options.

The quarter plant

The quarter plant is a tough cookie that you cannot easily get under. Ideal if you lack green fingers or if you have your hands full with your baby. It is a slow grower, but lasts for years.

Mexican mountain palm

The Mexican mountain palm is the best air freshener you could wish for. It does not mask the smell of full diapers, but the palm does provide clean air in the room. The plant does not require much care and also does well in places where there is not much light.

Calathea medallion

The Calathea Medallion is also called the ‘peacock plant’. Special: this plant opens and closes its leaves during the day. Loves a warm environment, light and (lots of) water, so is a bit of a diva among the plants.

Kentia palm

Bringing the outside in? The Kentia palm looks great in a somewhat more spacious nursery and provides clean air. Nice: it is a resilient specimen, so there is no need for the man if you forget to water it once.

Pachira plant

The Pachira plant is quite popular among feng shui adherents. This mini tree is said to bring good luck. So also very nice to give as a gift.

Rhapis

The rhapis, also called ‘lady palm’, is a slow grower and is praised for its elegant appearance. Thanks to the spreading leaves and the wooden trunk, the rhapis is a really special addition to any baby’s room.
