Pixel 6 has unbranded high-end chipset, more details are known

More is known about the Pixel 6 processor. It will be a generic chipset with a performance comparable to that of the Snapdragon 870. Google does not want to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888.

Google Pixel 6 processor

For the past few weeks, rumors have been raining about two upcoming Google flagships: the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. We got to see the first renders and already heard about the Pixel 6 Pro’s periscope camera. But what is also striking is the processor, because Google does not use the range of Qualcomm processors this time as usual.

Rumor spreaders Yogesh and Max Weinbach are now releasing new information about the processor of the devices that Google is probably developing together with Samsung. The processor is codenamed ‘Whitechapel’ and it is a high-end copy. According to the two men, the performance is roughly equal to that of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870.

Focus on AI

That chipset from Qualcomm is in fact an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 865 from 2020. You can therefore safely call it the smaller brother of the Snapdragon 888, Qualcomm’s most powerful high-end processor. Google has no plans to really compete with Qualcomm with its processor, but instead wants to focus on machine learning. The computing power in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) is therefore just as high compared to that of top chipsets.
