You can pin one or more messages in a chat in Telegram. We explain what is so useful about this and how to pin the messages.

Pin messages to a chat

It has been possible since 2016 to pin or ‘pin’ messages in a chat. You can mark certain messages as important so that they are displayed at the top of the chat screen. This is possible for both one-on-one chats and in groups and you can pin messages for the Android app, the desktop app and the web version of Telegram.

In individual chats, you can also pin the messages just for yourself at the top. This is useful, for example, if you do not want to forget an important message. In groups, everyone will see if a message is pinned to the top, and the administrator can choose to notify all participants about it via a notification. Since last year it is also possible to pin multiple messages in a (group) chat.

Pin one message bericht

To pin a single message, follow the steps below:

1. Open the chat where you want to pin a message
2. Tap the message once
3. Tap on Lock
4. Indicate whether you want to pin the message for the other person (only for individual chats)
5. The message now appears at the top of the chat

Now tapping the pinned message will navigate you to the spot in the chat where the message is. Tap the cross to unclip the message from the top. In groups you can’t choose to pin the message only for yourself at the top. You can choose to inform all participants about this via a notification.

Pin multiple messages

To pin multiple messages, follow the steps below:

1. Open the chat where you want to pin a message
2. Tap the message once
3. Tap on Lock
4. Indicate whether you want to pin the message for the other person (only for individual chats)
5. The message now appears at the top of the chat
6. Follow steps 1 through 5 for the other messages you want to pin.

Again, in groups you cannot choose to pin messages only for yourself at the top. You can choose to inform all participants about this via a notification.

You will now see a message at the top, but in front of it several vertical bars that indicate that more messages have been pinned. If you want to see the others, simply tap on the bar and you will be automatically navigated to the other posts. You can also use the button on the right. You will then be taken to a page where all pinned messages can be seen and you can also unpin them here.
