2021 is here, finally! The entire Phonandroid team sends you its best wishes for the new year! We must admit that with the health crisis, 2020 will be remembered as one of the worst years for half a century. It is promised, after having known a confinement, a deconfinement, a re-deconfinement, a redeconfinement, curfews in shambles … We will not go on forever on the subject. While the tech world has not been spared the effects of the coronavirus, it is still doing quite well. Here is a little summary of the past year and once again, we will do everything possible to avoid the health crisis, just to help you think of something else.

Some great telephony flagships and the comeback of OnePlus

Still a lot of quality smartphones were released in 2020. And we expect even more for 2021! Among the models that have really marked us over the past year, we can obviously mention the entire Galaxy S20 range, and in particular the S20 + which offers the best possible compromise between power, photo quality and handling. And if the price is something to put off, but you really wanted to acquire a smartphone from the range, know that Samsung also released in 2020 an S20 FE model, which has it all and which is displayed at a price significantly lower than his big brothers.

On the competition side, other models have also caught our eye, such as the Asus Zenfone 7 Pro, the Mi 10 Pro or the Poco F2 Pro. All of them have serious assets to offer. Special mention to OnePlus which, if it has very slightly disappointed us with the OnePlus 8, has managed to come into the race with its OnePlus 8T and its astonishing OnePlus Nord, a smartphone for less than 400 euros.

Let’s not forget the iPhone 12 and its different versions (iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max). Here again, this is an excellent compromise between performance, design, quality of the shot … Provided you appreciate the iOS ecosystem, of course.

Finally, we had to mention Huawei’s P40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro which would have deserved to be among the best smartphones of 2020 if they had been delivered with the GMS. But we will not repeat history, and we now hope that 2021 will allow Huawei to return to the small papers of the American administration … Or that Harmony OS 2.0 manages to replace Android on the phones of the Chinese brand, who knows ?

Barely released, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are already out of stock

ps5 xbox

2020 will have been undoubtedly marked by the releases of the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft: the PS5 on the one hand, and the Xbox Series X on the other. If the two manufacturers have smoothly chained lives during the year to unveil the design and the technical sheet of their respective console, two major problems quickly appeared. The lack of dedicated games exclusive to the new consoles in one. If there are only two games exclusive to the PS5 (Astro’s Playroom and Demon’s Souls Remake), on the Xbox Series X, it is even simpler: there are none.

And even if some titles dedicated to the PS5 and PS4 will not be released on the Microsoft console, such as Spider-Man Miles Morales or Sackboy, they can be counted for the moment on the fingers of the hand. In short, the two consoles may have been released too early and we will have to wait a few more months before being able to take advantage of the power of the two consoles.

But the real problem is above all the supply: as soon as they were marketed, the Sony and Microsoft consoles were out of stock! And if the merchant sites do the bottom of the drawer and manage to put a few back on sale from time to time, they are quickly stormed by bots who immediately buy the consoles, so that their owners can resell them two or three times the official price. If the craze for the Xbox Series X is less, that for the PS5 is beyond measure. Enough to arouse jealousy, console thefts, massive speculation and even a story that ends between a seller and a buyer.

We can bet that everything will return to order in 2021 and that the two consoles will be back on the shelves and in e-merchants very soon.

Cyberpunk 2077: the worst launch in video game history?

Expected as the Messiah for years, Cyberpunk 2077 will certainly have marked the minds of gamers in this year 2020, but perhaps not in the most positive way possible. From the release of the game, torrents of discontent poured out on the Web and with good reason. On PS4 and Xbox One, the graphics are sloppy and lots of bugs appear here and there, making games totally unplayable. Endlessly postponed, would Cyberpunk 2077 have been finished in a rush and without any optimization?

While CD Projekt, the game’s publisher, rushed to release several updates to its game, it failed to calm the anger of gamers. And even the promise to reimburse the most dissatisfied does not reduce the barrage of insults against CD Projekt for releasing an unfinished game. CD Projekt saw its stock market value drop by $ 2 billion, while investors want to sue the publisher.

At the same time, a version of the game has still managed to win back the hearts of players: the one available on Stadia. This is the same edition that can be found on a last generation PC, but which does not require a configuration over 1500 €. Of course, you need to have a good connection since everything is played in streaming, but the game is graphically very successful and it will at least have allowed the Google service to rebuild a reputation, which had been shunned for over a year. by the players.

5G kicks off

5G network

That’s it, 5G is finally available in France! If the models of smartphones compatible with this technology have been linked since 2019, it was not until the end of 2020 to see the arrival of the first packages from the operators. Hats off to Free, which manages to offer packages without price increases. Admittedly, 5G coverage is really very poor in France and it will take a few more months (or even a few years) before its deployment is really effective in France. But the technology is there and promises monstrous speeds and better network stability.

Disney + lands in France and breaks all records

Disney + Logo

If Netflix is undoubtedly the king of streaming, Disney + is starting to give it a hard time. Launched in April 2020 in France, the service quickly succeeded in winning the hearts of young and old alike around the world. With a series like The Mandalorian, whose season 2 airing has just ended, Disney + has become a safe bet in streaming. Right now, the service has over 86 million subscribers, and the upcoming arrival of Marvel series like WandaVision should quickly push it past 100 million.
