OxygenOS and Oppo ColorOS are merging

OnePlus is breaking new ground. The manufacturer previously announced a far-reaching collaboration with Oppo and now seems to be moving even further to Oppo. The manufacturer is now really talking about merging the OxygenOS and ColorOS skins.

OxygenOS and Color OS become one

Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus has announced that OnePlus will be breaking new ground. The innovations that this entails are part of OnePlus 2.0, as the Chinese manufacturer calls it. The integration with Oppo was already there, but now it will only get closer. In June of this year it was announced that there will be more intensive cooperation, but that later concerns also arose about the survival of OxygenOS. Those concerns may well be justified.

The OnePlus 2.0 plan is elaborately elaborated by Pete Lau of OnePlus. It is known that the software teams of both Oppo and OnePlus will work together even more closely, and there will be one new shell for Android. According to the manufacturer, it combines the best of OxygenOS and ColorOS. “It should combine the fast and light OxygenOS with the reliable ColorOS, which is also rich in features.” By using one shell, the rollout of (security) updates should be faster. According to Pete Lau, the new skin can offer the best for its users and will preserve the DNA of OxygenOS. It also remains possible for technical users to get started with the bootloader; it remains unlocked.

At the beginning of 2022, a new OnePlus smartphone will be released in the high-end segment. This will be equipped with the new OS, which does not seem to have been given a definitive name yet. Together with the update to Android 12, the various devices from OnePlus (and Oppo) will be updated with the new skin. More details about this will be shared at a later date. Unfortunately, images of the new skin are still missing.

Furthermore, Pete Lau emphasizes that the more affordable product categories are released more locally. We are already seeing this, for example, with the Nord N200 and the 9R, which are not for sale everywhere. The premium and ultra-premium models are offered worldwide. Furthermore, there will be an even broader focus on photography, with the best camera in the flagship series. The manufacturer wants to focus on three specific areas;

  • Creating a great and burdenless user experience at the very fundamental level.
  • Continuing to focus on improving color performance together with Hasselblad, the industry-leader in color, as well as with customized sensor and lenses.
  • Investing in the research and development of a range of new and improved technologies that will take the camera experience to new heights for our users.

As soon as there is more information about the new ColorOS and OxygenOS, we will of course keep you informed!
