Optical image stabilization in the lower middle class? Samsung is preparing a novelty

Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) is one of the features that most flagship smartphones usually have. However, this year the South Korean manufacturer Samsung also added OIS to two models of the middle class, which bears the designation Galaxy A. According to the GSMAren portal, next year all Galaxy A devices may offer this premium feature.

OIS is often not seen in the lower middle class, Samsung would be differentiated from the competition by this step

The report comes from a report from Korea, but has not been confirmed or refuted by Samsung. It is therefore not clear whether the company really plans to take this step. The Samsung Galaxy A52 and A72, which offered optical stabilization this year as well, are among the premiums in the middle class and are probably bought by people who expect a little more from their smartphone.

But with more affordable models like the Galaxy A12 or A22, every penny counts. It is therefore questionable whether this feature would convince users to choose a Galaxy smartphone, perhaps at the expense of a higher price. The report states that a sensor with optical stabilization is 15% more expensive than the one without it. This will increase the total cost of the device by approximately 3%.

On the other hand, it can be a competitive advantage for Samsung, for example over Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer’s equipment usually wins the price, but Samsung smartphones could beat them in camera quality. Either way, we won’t really find out how it will be until next year.
