OPPO introduced the second generation selfie camera on display

During the development of the second generation, the company tried to achieve the highest quality selfie camera photos while maintaining the image quality of the display. Thanks to this, the technology should finally be suitable for commercial use. OPPO collaborated on the development with one of the largest Chinese manufacturers of BOE displays.

Both companies have developed an innovative pixel geometry that reduces the size of each pixel in the selfie camera area while maintaining a pixel density of 400 PPI. OPPO has also replaced the traditional screen power line with a new material with a transparent power line that transmits more light.

The current industry standard is a 1-pixel 2-pixel drive circuit. OPPO has developed a new solution that allows each circuit to drive only one pixel. It works with precise algorithmic compensation technology and offers full screen brightness, which can be controlled with a deviation of only 2%.

The new technology also uses a series of artificial intelligence imaging algorithms to reduce diffraction, HDR and AWB. They should reduce negative side effects such as blurred images and reflections in selfie photos. They trained artificial intelligence in tens of thousands of photographs. It will also take care of correcting the brightness and colors of the OLED display.

It is not known when the new technology will hit the market

Unfortunately, the Chinese company OPPO has not announced when its new technology will appear in commercial products on the market. The competition is more active in this respect and the manufacturer ZTE has even introduced its second smartphone with a selfie camera in the display – ZTE Axon 30 5G.
