OnePlus and OPPO are going to look even more alike!

OnePlus and OPPO once again join forces and go even further with the merger of the company. What does this mean for its smartphones?

OnePlus once came like a bolt from the blue and gained a devoted fan base for their forward-thinking products. OPPO is quite similar in terms of hardware, but apparently without such a following. The latter, on the other hand, has a much larger presence and all the resources that come with it. That is why OnePlus and OPPO today announce that they will continue to merge.

OnePlus <3 OPPO

The two Chinese brands both fall under parent company BKK Electronics and have been playing borrowing for some time. Recently, OnePlus even adopted OPPO’s HarmonyOS as its official operating system. In short, the two know each other all too well. On the other hand, it is shocking that they are now even further merging.

What exactly does that mean? According to the blog post, OnePlus is and remains an independent brand. The brand would continue to operate independently and thus simply release OP products under its own name. But at the same time, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau says the following:

As many will know, I took on more responsibilities last year to develop product strategies at OnePlus and OPPO.

Since then, we’ve merged some of our teams with OPPO’s to create a more streamlined operation and take advantage of the shared resources. Now that we have experienced a positive impact from that decision, we have decided to further merge our organization with that of OPPO.

It is therefore more than likely that from now on we will get practically identical smartphones from the two brands, apart from the nameplate. Other Chinese smartphone brands also have a hand in this.

OnePlus doesn’t go into detail about what the merger means exactly, but the era of OnePlus’s unprecedented flagship killers seems to be over anyway. Or would the collaboration breathe new life into the company’s forgotten distinguishing factor?
