OnePlus 8 Pro crushes Samsung Galaxy S21

If we put the Samsung Galaxy S21 next to the OnePlus 8 Pro, we have to conclude that the former has no chance.

We recently compared the brand new Samsung Galaxy S21 with the OnePlus 8 and iPhone 12. It turned out that Samsung had the best specs on paper. But secretly, that comparison was not entirely fair, because the two Android devices differ a lot in price (€ 200). Today we therefore put the OnePlus 8 Pro next to the Galaxy S21. The results are a bit painful.

Samsung Galaxy S21 vs OnePlus 8 Pro

Although the OnePlus 8 Pro came out about a year after the Galaxy S21, the two are quite evenly matched at first glance. First of all, the smartphones cost almost the same; the Galaxy S21 costs € 849 new (without charger) and the OnePlus 8 Pro is sold for € 899 (with charger).

Before we get into the specs, there is one fundamental difference between the two; Samsung equips the Galaxy S21 with a brand new Snapdragon 888 while the OnePlus 8 Pro has to do with an older Snapdragon 865. That said, the difference between those two processors is no more than 10% in performance. Even more so, since in Europe we get the Exynos 2100 instead of the Snapdragon 888, the difference is practically marginal.

If we then compare specs, it quickly becomes clear how sturdy the OP 8 Pro actually is. The device has a larger and sharper display (1080p vs 1440p). OnePlus gives the smartphone in the Netherlands 12GB RAM as standard with the maximum amount of storage space. Furthermore, the device has a larger battery, 2x as fast wireless charging (!) And standard slightly faster charging with wire.

The only thing Samsung has with it is a slightly better main camera, although the selfie camera is less. The in-display fingerprint scanner also goes to Samsung, because it delivers an ultrasonic, which is always many times more accurate than OnePlus’ optical scanner.

In short, purely based on the specs, we can only conclude that the OnePlus 8 Pro pulverizes the Samsung Galaxy S21. Only in the field of the processor Samsung is a bit more up-to-date, which can certainly yield a profit. It is then up to the user to determine whether that is worth all other backlogs!
