In the future, o2 will provide even more customers with its fixed network tariffs for the Internet. With the new offer, a transmission technology is to be expanded significantly. Giga explains what’s on it and what Vodafone has to do with it.

According to its own statements, o2 has already reached 24 million cable households with its landline tariffs for the Internet. And there should be even more in the coming years. To this end, the German offshoot of the Spanish telecommunications provider Telefónica agreed on a cooperation two years ago that is intended to secure this goal – and is now fully effective.

o2 is entering the cable tariff business

According to Press release O2 tariffs are available to customers and those who want to become one via all common sales channels via cable connection. Since November, customers have already found what they are looking for in o2 shops. Especially during Corona, however, that should have meant a zero-sum game for CO2. In the meantime, however, the cable tariffs could also be concluded online and by telephone.

Above all, customers benefit from more choice: when checking the availability online, the tariffs offered at their place of residence are displayed. Everyone can choose what best suits their own ideas. The expanded range of cables from o2 is made possible by a cooperation with Vodafone. According to this, O2 is the only external provider to have “exclusive long-term access to the nationwide cable infrastructure from Vodafone”.

The catch on the cable business from o2

However, there is a catch: the cable connections do not perform the same as other technologies, but they cost just as much. The download speed is identical for the same price, but the cable tariff for uploading is discounted. According to Product information sheet For the tariff “o2 My Home L”, DSL and fiber optics can upload up to 40 Mbit / s in the best case – with a cable connection, however, a maximum of 6 Mbit / s. When it comes to the price-performance ratio, the new cable tariffs come off significantly worse. If you as an o2 customer are not dependent on using the antenna cable, you should take a look at the alternatives.
