Nothing launches nothing in June, Ear 1 earphones launch delayed

Nothing was set to launch its first product in June, the Nothing Ear 1. With the end of June in sight, Nothing founder Carl Pei admits ‘having nothing to show’. Pei says the launch of the wireless earbuds has been delayed and is due this summer.

Nothing Ear 1

Nothing announced in February that it plans to launch its own wireless earphones this summer, the first product of the Nothing ecosystem. With these completely wireless earphones, which bear the name Nothing Ear 1, the company of Carl Pei – former co-founder of OnePlus – will compete with established names such as Sony, JBL, Bose and even OnePlus, which has released several wireless earphones in recent years. Details about the wireless earphones are very scarce, and images that Pei’s company disseminated show an abstract design without depth.

For the time being, the details seem to remain scarce, according to a tweet from Carl Peis about the launch of the Nothing Ear 1 earphones. Last month, the company announced that it plans to launch the earphones in June. For unknown reasons, that launch date will not be met, Pei writes. However, according to the Nothing founder, the company is ‘close to the finish line’. Instead of a June launch, Carl Pei wants the launch to go ahead “later this summer.”

Pei does not speak about the causes of the delay in his tweet. This is an ‘unfortunate’ start for the startup, which has been remarkably silent in its communication to the public since the beginning of this year. Hopefully, the company can pick itself up for its upcoming product launches. In addition to the Ear 1 earphones, nothing works on a telephone and smartwatch, among other things. Whether those products will be released this year or whether they are long-term projects is unknown.

Substantial investments

For the time being, Nothing has a lot of money in house to develop products. In February, Nothing announced that it had raised more than 12 million euros in an investment round from GV, Google’s investment company. Previously, Tony Fadell, the creator of the Apple iPod, and Casey Neistat, a well-known YouTuber, invested 5 million dollars in Nothing. Finally, Carl Pei’s startup raised 1.2 million dollars from Nothing fans, who were able to invest 20 euros to 20,000 euros in the company.

For the time being, Nothing still looks like an empty shell to the outside world. Hopefully Nothing will have more to present in the short term than ‘nothing’. What do you think of Nothing as a startup? Do you think Pei will succeed in taking his business to great heights? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
