Nord 2 gets MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI processor
OnePlus and MediaTek jointly announce that the Dimensity 1200 AI chipset will get a place in the upcoming OnePlus Nord 2 5G. The ordinary Dimensity 1200 will receive additional functionalities in the field of artificial intelligence.

In recent years, OnePlus has been in the habit of releasing information about its phones in advance about its phones before they appear on the market. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G chipset is a modified version of the Dimensity 1200, MediaTek’s most powerful chipset with 5G modem. To emphasize the new AI capabilities of the chipset, OnePlus and MediaTek have chosen the name Dimensity 1200-AI. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G integrates the following AI-based enhancements, according to the press release: AI-assisted photography, display enhancements for a better user experience, faster response times for gaming, and much more.
AI in photography, image quality and games
As for the improvements in photography, we can already see that the phone recognizes 22 different scenarios in order to adjust the contrast and color tones. OnePlus calls it “AI Photo Enhancement.” For videos, the AI Video Enhancement feature enables real-time live HDR effects while recording. The DOL-HDR technology also further improves the quality and should provide more detail in the shadows and highlights of a photo. The size of photos increases, that is the difference between the light and dark elements in a photo.
In addition to those camera improvements, the Nord 2 5G will also upscale the display quality of videos in social media apps to HD resolution. AI Resolution Boost, that’s the name of the feature. OnePlus also reveals that the phone can play games with a higher refresh rate, and better heat management must be smart with energy consumption.
Leaked specs
The Nord 2 5G has already been leaked in renders that can be seen on the website of the Chinese regulator TENAA and in renders from OnLeaks. The device has a 6.43-inch screen without rounded corners. In addition, we expect a 50 MP main camera on the back, a 32 MP selfie camera, an 8 MP wide-angle camera and a 4,500 mAh battery.
