No one can deny the truth now

Android smartwatches are anything but bestsellers – that much is known. But how badly do these smart watches really sell? Chip manufacturer Qualcomm has now indirectly shed light on the darkness. This gives even more weight to a significant announcement from the recent past.

Android smartwatches are being scrapped on both sides. In the affordable price segment of less than 100 euros, fitness trackers like the Xiaomi Mi Band make life difficult for watches, whereas in the more expensive upper class, the Galaxy Watches from Samsung dominate the picture. So it is not surprising that Android smartwatches have sold more badly than rightly in recent years.

Qualcomm confirms: Only 40 million Android smartwatches sold in 5 years

Qualcomm announced in a press release that the California-based chip manufacturer has been only 40 million chips for Android smartwatches sold has (source: Qualcomm). Since most smartwatches based on Wear OS have a Qualcomm processor on board, this number should also more or less exactly reflect how many Android smartwatches went over the counter in total.

The Android camp does not even come close to the front runner Apple, but Samsung is also likely to be far ahead of the competition year-on-year. The South Koreans alone have 2020 brought more than 13 million smartwatches to man – one manufacturer in a year.

Do you want a new smartwatch? In this Video let’s show what you should pay attention to:

Galaxy Watch 4 will be the first indicator of the new operating system

In light of this terrifying numbers the recently announced restart of Android smartwatches makes even more sense than it already does. At the developer conference I / O 2021, Google and Samsung announced that they want to do a common cause on smartwatches. The new operating system, called Wear, was developed by Google, Samsung and Fitbit and is supposed to bring a breath of fresh air to the smartwatch industry.

Only time will tell whether this will succeed. A first indicator of this could be the new Galaxy Watch 4. The Samsung watch will be the first smartwatch based on the new Wear operating system and will be officially presented on August 11th.
