Three Pokémon games are coming to the Nintendo Switch, namely two remakes of Diamond and Pearl and the brand new Legends Arceus.

Nintendo announces three official new Pokémon games during an online presentation. It concerns two remakes of old classics with a completely new look. The third title is a completely new game already called Pokémon à la Breath of the Wild. We know this about the three new games.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo has announced two remakes for the popular franchise’s 25th anniversary, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The original games came out for the Nintendo DS in 2006. It is the first time that an old Pokémon game is released for the Nintendo Switch.

Surprisingly, however, it is not a remake as we are normally used to. Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo Switch are getting a complete makeover. The top-down perspective remains, but the Sinnoh region is getting a complete makeover. During Pokémon battles, players then get to see a true 3D playing field where the beautiful action can take place.

Pokémon Legends Arceus

But the main attraction today is of course the brand new Pokémon game subtitled Legends Arceus, named after the mythical Pokémon. The game will have a Breath of the Wild-like approach, where players can roam freely in the Sinnoh region.

Pokémon Legends Arceus is set in the past and revolves around assembling the first Pokédex. So you will not encounter Team Rocket, Pokécenters, or Pokéleagues. The concept of a Trainer is actually still unknown in this new old time period.

Pokémon Legends Arceus will be released for Nintendo Switch in early 2022, while the Diamond and Pearl games will hit shelves by the end of this year.
