The avatars are provided by the WhatsApp operator Meta offered as a sticker pack. It is used in a very similar way to Facebook and Instagram, Meta’s other platforms. The configuration is possible via the settings of the app, there is a new menu item called Avatar (source: WABetaInfo).

Since the avatars so far only in the beta version of WhatsApp have appeared, there may still be minor problems with the display here and there. If the function is well received by users, it can be expected to be introduced in the final version of the app in the near future.
