New concept from Xiaomi: Is this the future of mobile?

Xiaomi has a new smartphone concept. He appeared in a video that shows him from all sides. At first glance, it attracts with its curved display on all four sides. It is not any bend, but something that looks like the longest fold on all sides. According to the Android Authority, the bend is up to 88 degrees. In addition, it eliminates any edges or buttons.

Buttonless concept from Xiaomi with waterfall display

In order for Xiaomi to create such a phone, he had to create tools for adjusting glass. Subsequently, the display will burn at a temperature of about 800 degrees. He then went through four smoothing tools, which performed about ten such procedures.

It reminds us of the concept from 2019 – Vivo Apex. It should also be without any ports or buttons and with significant folds on the sides. By the way, did anyone notice the camera on the front? Not? This is because Xiaomi plans to implement the third generation of the camera to be placed under the display.

As this concept is also port-free, charging will take place wirelessly. Today’s mobile phones don’t even have a problem with the power of 50 W via wireless Qi charging, so it can no longer be argued that this charging is slow or inefficient. Since there is no space left on the SIM card slot, we see this in support of eSIM. The speaker is also not here, so it will probably be some degree of sound transmission through the construction of the phone. You may also notice in the video that the concept uses pressure sensors that replace the physical volume control buttons. Xiaomi is said to have up to 46 patents for this smartphone.

Is the world ready for this?

Two years ago, the Vivo Apex concept did not see the light of day because it was too timeless and impractical. Will Xiaomi succeed with her concept or will she fall into oblivion? The minimally curved screen is a trend that people haven’t accepted much (this is also indicated by the manufacturers who are abandoning it – see Samsung). Such a screen is even more prone to damage than traditional flat glass. Accidental touches can also be a problem.

Are you interested in this concept and would you buy a phone without traditional hardware elements (SIM slot, buttons, speaker)? Let us know your opinion below in the discussion.

What is the competition working on?

Samsung has also recently patented an interesting device that has a sensor under the display. We do not yet know what equipment will be lost or when it would be available. Maybe never, maybe it’s just property protection he invented.

For a change, the Chinese manufacturer Oppo is experimenting with a slide-out display. It is a display that would slide upwards.

Huawei also doesn’t rest on its laurels and is exploring new possibilities. The last time we wrote was that he could implement a display between cameras in one of his smartphones.
