Netflix will not only offer movies and series, but also games, Bloomberg reports. For this, the streaming service has hired Mike Verdu and he will be responsible for the development of games.

Verdu previously worked for Electronic Arts and also for Oculus, the Facebook subsidiary, and has worked on the popular games The Sims and Plants vs Zombies, among others. Verdu must ensure that Netflix subscribers can also stream games in addition to films and series from next year.

Netflix has not yet announced what that will look like. The games would be placed in a new category on the platform similar to the documentaries and stand-up specials categories. So it may be that next year you will suddenly see a number of games between the films and series. It is not yet known which games those are. Perhaps we will see games that match the series that can already be seen on Netflix and that are based on games, such as High Score. That is a nostalgic docu-series that focuses on classic video games.

Competition enough

Netflix is ​​still at the top when it comes to streaming movies and series, but the company is feeling the heat on the neck of competitors like Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video. That is why it is important to look to the future and to tap into new markets. Netflix will therefore continue to expand its games department, as shown by the vacancies on its website.

The streaming service also indicates that it will not adjust the price of existing subscriptions for the time being. Of course, Netflix can still do this at a later time, and perhaps there will be an extra subscription or a price increase.
