Netflix wants to fight against account sharing without penalizing its subscribers
Netflix is cracking down on account sharing, but doesn’t want to scare off “real” subscribers.
Netflix fights against account sharing. If you share your Netflix account with your loved ones, you have probably already received an email informing you that you must now add an additional subscriber to your account. To the height of €5.99 monthly per billdepending on the number of people you share your subscription with, the bill can climb very quickly. If the measure can be expensive for the sharers, these are the only “penalties” they incur.

Indeed, when Golem asked Netflix if subscribers sharing their credentials risk anything other than a monetary “penalty”, the streaming giant assured him that account holders have nothing to fear. If they continue to share their credentials with people outside their household, their account will not be suspended. On the other hand, those who improperly take advantage of someone else’s subscription will see a message stating that the broadcast is not possible.
Netflix account holders don’t have to worry about getting banned if they share their credentials
It is therefore strongly recommended that “profiteers” purchase a subscription or add an additional subscriber to the main account. Netflix tells the German site that no one should be banned or suspended without warning. We can well imagine that the balance between coercion and flexibility is difficult to find for the company. Indeed, how encourage free riders to take out a subscription without irritating the main account holders?

One thing is certain though. If this big fight against account sharing is unpopular at first, it should prove profitable for the company in the medium term. She has seen this phenomenon in Canada where, since the implementation of the new policy several months ago, the number of subscribers to the platform is now higher than before.
