Netflix confirms its interest in offering viewers -apkrig games as well
Last week, Bloomberg reported that Netflix was about to enter the video game segment. Based on information from an unnamed source, it was stated that the offer of the first games should be available within the current subscription – ie without additional fees – and it was speculated in which direction Netflix wants to go. In the past, he has offered viewers the interactive film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and, for example, provided the game Stranger Things 3: The Game, based on the series of the same name. A few days later, however, we are clearer about the whole initiative, when Netflix representatives confirmed it in a discussion with investors over the financial results for the past quarter. “We are in the initial phase of an expansion into games, building on our previous attempts at interactive movies and games from the Stranger Things series,” Netflix confirmed, bringing snippets of more detail.
First of all, we can confirm Bloomberg’s information that the games should be included in the application menu without any additional fee. But right away, we have to lower expectations, because Netflix, at least for the beginning, has seen itself in the mobile segment. “We consider games to be another category of content, just as we’ve expanded into our own movies or cartoons,” said company spokesmen. “Given that we have been advancing in the field of original programs for almost ten years, we think it is time to find out how much our customers are interested in games,” they confirm in a follow-up statement.
Everything goes hand in hand with the hiring of a new manager for video games, who has become veteran from Electronic Arts, Zynga or Facebook Mike Verdu. He should set up an executive team at Netflix to manage all video game activities, although it is not entirely clear at the moment whether Netflix will engage in them internally or only work with ancillary entities. In the case of Stranger Things 3: The Game, it was the independent studio BonusXP, which before the game signed only one other title – The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactcis – based on the CGI series of the same name. He now reports on his website that he is working on a hitherto unannounced AAA game, which does not seem to correspond to Netflix’s focus on mobile devices, but at the same time does not rule out further cooperation.
It is also worth noting that in the data of the Netflix mobile application – specifically for iOS – TheTapeDrive editor-in-chief Steve Moser found artwork from the game Ghost of Tsushima and also a picture of two DualSense drivers. At the same time, he suggested that the working designation of the Netflix game section may sound Shark, and in the final, the games could be grouped under the NGame banner. However, Netflix representatives have not officially commented on these speculations, and the question remains what discovery actually means.
