Nearby Share test: the new tool for transfers between Android and PC!
What is Nearby Share?
To compete with Apple’s AirDrop solution, Google launched its own tool, Nearby Share, in 2020. A suite that allows the user to quickly transfer photos, videos or other files between compatible devices, so, until now, two Android terminals, so smartphones and tablets with this OS, as well as Chromebooks.
A beta version for Windows
To increase the usefulness of its service, Google has just announced the upcoming arrival of its solution on Windows PC. Quite practical if you want, for example, to benefit from a larger screen to view an image or a document without using cross roads.
The solution will therefore arrive on Windows PCs in the coming months in a consumer version. According to Google, it will always work once installed, whether the application is running on the desktop or is only available in the background. For operation, we use the very simple Drag & Drop, with file circulation in both directions (to the mobile and to the PC). It works very well, it is even possible to receive files from contacts that you have previously authorized. In Windows, a new entry will appear in the right-click context menu. On Android, simply choose this feature in the sharing options. Magic !
Regions selected for the test
Currently, the Windows version of Nearby Share is not available to everyone. According to Google’s press release, a number of countries and areas are excluded from the Beta: Austria, Belgium, or even Denmark, Estonia, Germany, but also France.
With a VPN, however, it is possible to cheat and download the app using an American IP. If you don’t have a VPN, the well-known NordVPN currently offers an offer at 3.39/month with three months free. Its best competitor, CyberGhost, whose quality is at least equal and offers a promo at €2.11/month also with three months free and a 45-day money-back guarantee.
It’s so obvious that we wonder how we had to wait until 2023 for that!
Well, we guess that the use of a solution made by Google will not delight all users. So, for those who want to find an alternative simulating AirDrop on Android, we have the solution! An Open Source tool exists, allowing file sharing between Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and even Linux devices: LANDrop. We recommend that you test this tool, which is very practical for simplifying file sharing between devices. Those who want simplicity and an Android-Windows connection can also try AirMore.
