My only wish to Amazon

The deal is dry: Amazon buys the traditional film studio MGM – for 8.4 billion US dollars. The expensive takeover gives me hope for the glorious comeback of a franchise that has been criminally neglected in recent years.

Whether the MCU, James Bond, Star Trek or the Mission Impossible series: Franchises dominate the film and television world. The success of the current Marvel films in particular has created a real hype. It feels like everyone wants to earn a quick euro with well-known franchises. It seems all the more strange that a successful franchise lying idle for more than 10 years: Stargate.

Why do you let Stargate go to waste on the shelf?

There has been no Stargate series since the last episode of Stargate Universe, which flickered across the screens in 2011. Rarely have there been characters in TV history who complemented each other so perfectly and harmonized with each other: the gruff but funny Col. O’Neill, the clever Carter, the idealistic Daniel Jackson and of course (“Indeed”) Teal ‘ c. Stargate: Atlantis was still entertaining, but I felt it couldn’t quite match the quality of SG-1. With Stargate: Universe, however, I didn’t warm up at all, it always felt like a “Wanted, but not able” imitation of Battlestar Galactica.

In addition to the video-on-demand service, there are other reasons for a Prime membership:

Stargate has earned a comeback on Amazon

Despite this undeniable “downward trend” of the three series Stargate deserves a comeback. This is where my hope lies after Amazon’s takeover of MGM. That someone in the extremely rich US company looks at the rights catalog at MGM and thinks: “Hey, Stargate!” – and then one loose a few million for a new edition. One will probably still be able to dream …
